Located directly off the Golden Circle (R35) the Haukadalur Geothermal Area, which includes a variety of geological wonders such as bubbling mud pools, hot springs and geysers. Infact, the area is home to the original ‘Geysir’ (meaning to gush or to rush forth) where the english word ‘Geyser’ originates from. Although ‘Geysir Geyser’ doesn’t erupt as frequently anymore, the magnificent ‘Strokkur Geyser’ erupts approximately every 10 minutes, reaching up to 30 meters before vaporising into the atmosphere. You should be guaranteed to witness an eruption during your visit!

The area is a popular tourist attraction and it’s hard to miss as there are almost always plenty of tourist busses parked outside. The entrance to the park starts with smoke coming from the vents in the ground and they’ve even built a wee house to look as if the smoke is coming from it’s chimney.
