Gljúfrabúi often tends to be missed as the nearby Seljalandsfoss tends to steal all the thunder! However Gljúfrabúi is just as (if not more) impressive and deserves some appreciation. The falls are hidden between a cave like canyon, and if you’re careful you can actually climb right in and amongst it. At 40 meters high the mystical water feature will leave you in admiration while the other tourists are left distracted by the also elegant, Seljalandsfoss.

Level: Easy-Medium
  • Take the R249 exit off Ring Road, Seljalandsfoss is clearly signed and is visible from the road side.
  • Follow the trail 5-10 minutes north untill you reach Gljúfrabúi
  • Raincoat and waterproof boots recommended if you wish to get close
  • Caution: Slippery loose rocks inside the cave
  • For adventurers of most levels
  • Out of respect, be cautious not to tread on Iceland’s delicate untouched soils
