Within the North-East Icelandic landscapes, you will find Dettifoss. At 100m wide and 45m high it is renowned to be the most powerful waterfall in Europe. Most visitors access the falls from the East, but there is also an entrance on the West. With caution you may take a hike around the area, it’s only 1km to nearby Selfoss. Another nice hiking trail goes along the canyon from Dettifoss to Asbyrgi (with camping possible in Vesturdalur).

Level: Easy-Moderate
  • Route contains gravel roads that may be closed during winter
  • For adventurers of most levels
  • The footpath down to the falls is slippery, sturdy footwear is recommended
  • Be cautious not to tread on Iceland’s delicate untouched soils
