Also referred to as the Kairara Rocks, the Duke’s Nose trail boasts breath taking views that may as well be found in Indonesia. To start the trail you have two options:

  1. Take a boat or water taxi to Lane Cove from Totata North or Whangaroa
  2. Walk the Wairakau Stream Track (aprox 2 hours)

Once reached the base of Dukes Nose, prepare for a short but steep climb upwards. During the final 20 metres of ascent you will find a chain attached to the rocks, to assist you to the landing point. Although the Duke’s Nose Track may be challenging for some, it is sure to leave you satisfied with a great feeling of accomplishment.

Level: Moderate-Difficult
  • Steep 500 metre climb from the base (aprox 40 minutes)
  • For adventurers of a good fitness level
  • Keeping both hands free is recommended as you will require them to climb
