Escape to another world. At only an hour and 40 minutes out of Wellington lie the Putangirua Pinnacles. The long narrow individual formations have taken thousands of years to be exposed. They are what is left behind as the surrounding area erodes, from a form of Badlands Erosion. There is a basic DOC campsite in the area if you plan to make a few days of the location and Cape Palliser also has a beautiful rugged coastline. Pitstop at the lighthouse and watch the seals on the way.

Level: Easy-Moderate
  • 2 -4 hrs return (depending on route)
  • For adventurers with a moderate fitness level
  • Caution: Watch for falling rocks on the streambed walk
