At a whopping 220,000 litres per second, Huka Falls comes roaring through a narrow canal from Lake Taupo, and forms the Waikoto River. They aren’t far at all off the beaten track. Either a short turn off from SH1, or a few minutes drive from the tourist hub of Taupo, they are readily accessible and right up there with New Zealand’s top tourist attractions. There are plenty of vantage points to observe and photograph this natural phenomenon.
